Just Thinking

By Robert Mingolelli
How does a sports writer keep the sports page interesting in these times with no games, matches, or events being played? I mean, there are only so many times you can show photos of golf course closed, athletic fields closed, tennis courts closed. You get the idea. Some recreational activities are opening with restrictions but, you know, no HS baseball, softball, lacrosse games or tennis matches.
Interestingly enough, I recently read that the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan, due to start on March 14, was postponed and then scheduled to start April 12 with no spectators. From May 8, spectators were allowed. MLB, are you paying attention?
After 20 plus enjoyable years of following GDRHS sports, I often return home from a game/ match/event remembering a goal, assist or game defining play. I continue to follow many of these same athletes after they graduate and continue their education and athletic endeavors in college.
After researching, calling, sending emails and contacting former GD teachers, I have enjoyed discovering how they have transitioned to the next phase of their lives, their accomplishments, awards, etc. I hope it has been interesting for our Groton Herald readers.
