Groton Team Competes in USTA New England and National Championship

The 2019 USTA Junior Team Tennis 18U National Championships got underway in San Antonio, Texas. A local team, including players from Groton, qualified to compete after advancing through the USTA New England Section Championship. Then off to the 2019 USTA Junior Team Tennis 18U National Championships, held at the McFarlin Tennis Center in San Antonio, Nov. 14-17.
     The local New England entry is the Yellow Jackets coached by Jurgen Georgs (Groton) and includes U18 players Carley Citron (Bedford, NH), Jens Georgs (Groton), Kai Georgs (Groton), Linda Kong (Lexington), Joseph Maffa (Boxborough) and Claire Reynolds (Nashua, NH). They competed in the U18 Advanced Flight C, went 3-2 on the weekend placing 9th in the Advanced Division.
     “The National Championships provide an opportunity to celebrate each of these teams who had a similar yet different path to qualify for the event through their respective sections,” said coach Georgs.
