Town Census and the March 1 Presidential Primary

Return your Town Census by Feb. 10 so that voting at the Presidential Preference Primary March 1 will be uninterrupted; this is a great time to "double check" your voter status.

At this primary election, Mass. voters will vote for choices for Presidential candidates from our 4 political parties.

Enrollment as a voter will affect the party primary in which you can vote. Voters who are enrolled in a party can only vote on the ballot for that party. Unenrolled voters and, because of a recent change in the law, voters who are members of Political Designations can choose the party's ballot.

Your census form will indicate party in which you are enrolled. If you are enrolled in one of these parties, you will find letter codes next to your name in the column marked "PARTY". You will be eligible to vote in that Party's primary.

D - Democratic Party

R - Republican Party

J - Green-Rainbow Party

CC - United Independent Party

Voters not enrolled in a party ("independent") will be listed code "U" ("Unenrolled"). Voters enrolled in Political Designations are listed with other letter codes. These voters have a choice of party ballot at the primary.

Voter Registration deadline for new voters who will turn 18 by March 1 and for voters who wish to change party enrollment is Feb. 10. Voters may register or change party enrollment by completing a new voter registration form in person, by mail, or online www.RegisterToVoteMA.com. You cannot register or change party affiliation using the town census form.

If you would like more clarification of your party status or have other questions relative to the upcoming election call the Town Clerk's Office (978)-448-1100 or email townclerk@townofgroton.org.
