Time To Register Your Dogs

Registering your dogs provides a source of identification for them through Groton and state tags issued on vaccination and registration. Animal Control will return a dog to its owner if it is wearing its tags. This year the $25 pick-up fee will be waived for all registered dogs. If a dog has no tags or micro-chip identification it will be taken to the town shelter and a fee will be incurred for each day there. After 10 days there, the dog will be put up for adoption if the owner is not found.

To register your dog it must be vaccinated against rabies. We have had no incident of rabies in domestic animals in town, several wild animals test positive each year. Dogs and cats not vaccinated can come in contact with these animals and if they incur a wound the dog or cat may be quarantined up to 45 days.

Registration is simple: first a visit to your Vet for vaccination, then visit to Town Clerk for registration.
