New Groton Visitor Center Opens At Prescott On Fourth of July

Groton residents and visitors to our Town are invited to stop by the new Groton Visitor Center at Prescott to be launched this Saturday, July 4 , 10:00-2:00. COVID-19 prevented the planned opening of the Visitor Center in the main lobby at Prescott in March, but access to it has been created through a new website and through a “pop-up” center on the front lawn of the Prescott School.
The new Visitor Center, on-line and in-person, will feature a double-sided color map of Groton and a downtown walking map. Donations from twenty-two sponsors who are featured on the map helped pay for the annual operating costs and materials, along with the donation of printing from Deluxe Corporation. These sponsors plus all civic and non-profit groups are invited to bring materials to the Visitors Center for distribution. The VC will be open on the Prescott front lawn every Saturday and Sunday, 10:00-2:00, and will be staffed by volunteers from Friends of Prescott, Inc. and these local groups. This is an ideal time to drop by, drop off materials, say hello and volunteer to help.
In case of inclement weather visitors can come into the Visitor Center itself, located in the main lobby of the Prescott School. Public restrooms are available for visitors here too. Volunteers currently are painting and decorating the lobby interior.
If you are interested in fixing up the new Center or spending a two-hour session on a Saturday or Sunday greeting visitors, please sign up by going to An “all are welcome” socially distanced smile will be much appreciated. All COVID protocols are being observed outdoors and indoors.
Check out the virtual Groton Visitor Center on-line at www. grotonmavisitorcenter. org. Thank you Liz Pawlak for the map design and to Wanfang Murray and Kathleen Phelps for map and website graphics. Each a Groton resident, they have created a website that is slowly being added to. Your suggestions are welcome.
