Lakes Need Weed Watchers

Volunteers are needed to serve as Boat Launch Monitors at Lost Lake/Knops Pond and Baddacook Pond. This is a volunteering opportunity for nature lovers and those wanting to help protect the environment. The goal is to eliminate the possibility of non-native invasive weeds being transferred to and from Groton's lakes and ponds by boats and trailers.

In two-hour shifts, volunteers monitor the boat launches at Lost Lake/Knops Pond and Baddacook Pond. They hand out literature to boaters, explaining what the program is all about, as well as inspect boats & trailers in order to remove all weeds that might be present.

This MUST be done according to a new Massachusetts law before the boat can be launched, and again when the boat comes out of the water.

Non-native invasive weeds are an environmental problem that can be managed if we all participate in this very important cause. We need folks to offer to spend a couple of hours to monitor the boat launches. You may sign up for as many open two-hour slots as you are willing and able to do.
