Town Manager Mark Haddad asked the Select Board to reconsider opening Groton Country Club pool. He advised that the protocols for its use were expanded and that a waiver has been prepared by Town Counsel. He said use would be for residents only. He suggested that the Board approve opening the pool for two weeks in order to test the protocols and then report on the results.
Country Club Manager Shawn Campbell suggested opening the pool on July 1, so there is time to get life guards and inspections in place. He added, “You will get a weekly update from me.”
Select Board member John Giger reported that he spent time last week with Campbell and the Aquatic Director and was very comfortable with the effort. “If we can’t go beyond the two weeks, it’s because people have not been complying with the protocols.”
Selectman Josh Degen said he was “happy with the waivers and the protocols and I hope it works out well.”
Following further discussion, the Select Board voted unanimously to open the pool on July 1 with a two-week trial and signed waivers.
Update: Town Manager Haddad has announced the opening as follows:
After careful re-consideration and a review of protocols issued by the Commonwealth and developed by our Staff, the Select Board has decided to open the Pool at the Groton Country Club to Groton residents only, on a trial basis effective on Thursday, June 25, 2020. The protocols and rules and procedures for this opening can be found at www.grotoncountryclub.com. We urge residents to follow the rules for this opening for the safety and health of all users of the Pool.
