Garlands and Lights On The Common

Approximately 10 years ago, Groton Woman's Club member Audrey Bryce presented an idea to the Board of the Woman's Club that was enthusiastically approved. She proposed, in keeping with the season, that lighted garlands could be strung along the fence in front of hallowed ground of The Minuteman Common in the center of Groton across from the Public Library.

Every year since then, Lights Committee members have braved the cold, wind and numb fingers involved with stringing the garlands. This is the third set of garlands supplied by the Club over the years. After Thanksgiving, the LED lights will be turned on and red bows will be attached.

The Common is an important site in the History of Groton as it was the meeting place for brave Groton residents - farmers, shop owners, and others who left their families to march together to Concord to fight for freedom for our country during the Revolution.

Groton Electric Light Dept. has been a strong supporter of the Groton Woman's Club effort and helped from the beginning to keep these lights on during the Holiday Season.
