AS YOU LIKE IT at Lawrence Academy
Lawrence Academy Theatre Dept. presents Shakespeare's As You Like It on Nov. 6, 7, and 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Richardson-Mees Performing Arts Center on the school's campus in Groton.
As You Like It's Forest of Arden is a place to which Rosalind and Celia escape and to which Orlando is banished. For all of them, it is ultimately refuge from a world where people mistreat each other. Through the play's comedic twists and turns, it becomes clear that Arden is also place where people can be someone else and, at the same time, perhaps figure out who they are.
"The stage we've built on top of our stage here in this theatre is a place where life is different than off it," says director Joel Sugerman. "It's a place of escape, yes, but also a place where life is examined." First produced in 1599, the timeless play continues to invite modern audiences to escape and discover along with the characters.
The public welcome. Admission free. The facility is handicap accessible. Lawrence Academy's website at www.lacademy.edu provides a map of the school campus. Email Theatre Director Joel Sugerman at jsugerman@lacademy.edu with any questions.
