SCHOOLS: Chess Players Take 2nd and 3rd in Upset Wins
Country Day School Chess Club hosted its first annual Chess Tournament, Nov. 26. In this dual meet CDS Chess Club faced off against students from Sacred Heart School of Gardner.
Students from grades two-eight were paired in a four round, 15-minute time control, SWSS style tournament format. A total of 12 tables were seated, with some intense match play witnessed throughout each of the four rounds.
Duncan Premus of Country Day secured second place overall with a final round victory over the top-ranked Sacred Heart player. Third place overall was Paul Henderson, who himself scored a third-round upset victory over a higher seeded eighth grade player.
Strong showings were also made by Ryan Beaulieu, McKenna Premus, and Colgan Tyskwicz of Country Day.
