Groton's Lindsey Callan Wins Chorus Award for Nashoba Tech
Lindsey Callan of Groton, a freshman at Nashoba Valley Technical High School, won a TAMY Award in the category of Not-Your-Average Chorus Member at Mount Wachusett Community College's Theatre, Sunday, May 18.
Lindsey played several roles in the winter production of "Shrek: The Musical," including Teen Fiona, Humpty Dumpty, a rat and one of the Three Blind Mice. But it was her role as a member of the chorus where she stood out.
Lindsey received her award at the Theatre at the Mount's eighth annual awards ceremony at Mount Wachusett CC, where she confesses she was a lot more nervous than she is when she's on stage.
"I was scared because I was up against all the big kids," said Lindsey, who won the award for her first-ever high-school production.
Lindsey was nominated along with 12 other student-actors - one from each school that submitted nominations to Theatre at the Mount. In the end, all 13 students nominated for Not-Your-Average Chorus Member received awards.
"When they announced everyone who had been nominated for the award won, I cried," she said.
Lindsey, a student in Nashoba Tech's TV & Media Production/Theater Arts program, confesses that when she started at Nashoba Tech last fall, she had her eye on Dental Assisting.
"Then I joined the Drama Club, and I realized TV was where I need to be," said Lindsey, who had done some acting before high school. "Until this year, it never felt like that when I got on stage. It's like home."
Lindsey said she wants to resume acting and jazz-dance lessons to prepare for upcoming Nashoba Tech productions. "I want to do this for the rest of my life," she said.
