Union Congregational Church Welcomes Rev. Corey Jason Sanderson

Union Congregational Church of Groton (UCC) is excited to announce that Reverend Corey Jason Sanderson has been called to serve as interim pastor. Reverend Sanderson will begin his ministry in Groton on December 1, the start of advent season, and will lead UCC through an interim period that will include some inspiring events in the life of the church.
Reverend Sanderson received his undergraduate degree in psychology from UMASS Amherst and his Master of Divinity degree from Boston University. He grew up in a UCC church and was ordained in the United Church of Christ in 2001.
Reverend Sanderson served most recently as a settled pastor in Western MA where he had been for seven years. Before that, he served as an interim pastor for two churches, a settled or part-time pastor for three churches, and was called to start a new UCC church in Michigan. He summarizes his ministry as “Being a minister is not something I do, it is who I am.” He describes his life’s purpose as living as a disciple of Jesus and showing, teaching, and leading others to do the same. He is “passionate about teaching churches to do faithful and powerful ministry in our modern cultural context.” He strives to help churches learn how to grow, be more effective, and create vital new ministries.
Rev. Sanderson is also passionate about joyful and meaningful worship, working with students, teaching adult faith classes, mission work, building inter- religious dialogue, and fostering creative ministries. He feels that “shaping the beliefs and values of our youngest members is a high priority.” He and his teen aged son look forward to participating in the church’s annual youth mission trip in the summer of 2020; this one to Guatemala. Rev. Sanderson feels called to serve in Groton and is as excited as the congregation is about this upcoming interim period that will include a project to make the church fully accessible for all who have physical challenges. His leadership, enthusiasm, and passion will also help guide the congregation in the search for their next settled pastor. The church invites the community to worship services at 10AM (childcare and Sunday School are provided) and to meet Rev. Sanderson at fellowship hour.
