Bruce Eason Builds a Bridge for Gibbet Hill Trail

Bruce Easom obtained a MA Recreational Trail Program grant to build a magnificent trail bridge over the wet area atop Gibbet Hill. The grant provides 80% of the necessary funding, but there must be 20% of "sweat equity" (volunteer) labor to match. As a result of previous volunteer efforts, all materials were cut to size and are ready for assembly. Bruce needed people to help move the bridge deck planks to an area outside.
In one of the the ancient and honorable traditions of Groton, volunteers met at Bruce's barn at 435 Martins Pond Rd. on August 23 at noon. Nice and hot! It took about an hour for the nine workers to do the work.
Bruce now plans to pressure wash the planks and paint them. Soon afterwards, he will be looking for volunteers to move all the materials up to the site of the bridge and then assemble it. This will be the exciting climax to a long and complex process!
