Merrimack Valley Jewish Federation Film Festival 2019

Merrimack Valley Jewish Federation will hold its annual Jewish Film Festival over three days in various locations, beginning Saturday, May 18 and ending on Monday, May 20. The festival will feature four films, Magic Men, The Samuel Project, the Invisibles and Shoelaces. All four movies have won numerous awards.

Magic Men will be shown Saturday, May 18, 7:30 p.m. at Congregation Shalom in Chelmsford. The admission is $24 per person and includes an opening night festive reception. (English, Greek, Hebrew with English Subtitles)

The Samuel Project, admission $12 per person, will be shown on Sunday, May 19, 1:30 p.m. at 1580 Osgood Landing in North Andover. This is a heartwarming story of an outcast teen who connects with his isolated grandfather Samuel when he makes him the subject of an animated art project for school. The movie is suitable for students, seventh grade and up. (English)

The Invisibles, admission $12 per person will be shown on Sunday, May 19, 4 p.m., also at Osgood Landing.  In June, 1943, Germany declared Berlin Judenfrei-free of Jews.  But at that moment, there were still 7000 Jews living there, hiding and protected by courageous Berliners, while desperately trying to avoid deportation. The movie depicts the experiences of four adult survivors, (one a teenager). (German with English subtitles). Admission to see both movies on Sunday is $20 per person.

Shoelaces will be held Monday, May 20, 7 p.m. at Temple Emanuel in Andover. The $18 admission includes a Dessert Wrap Party. In this award-wining Israeli family dramedy, surly mechanic Reuven takes in his exuberant adult special need’s son, Gadi, after his ex-wife’s untimely death. (Hebrew with English subtitles)

The package admission for all four movies is $50 per person, and there are sponsorships available for $180. Donations from the event will benefit the many programs of the Federation.
