OBITUARY: Richard S. Malagodi at 87
Richard Sebastian Malagodi, 87, of Portsmouth, NH, died on December 16, 2016, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Richard was born July 2, 1929 in Somerville, Massachusetts, the son of Louis Charles and Katherine (Fuccione) Malagodi. He grew up working in the family business, the North End Fruit Market, until graduating from Somerville High School. Following graduation Richard served in the US Air Force for four years during the Korean War, stationed in Nagoya, Japan where he was a member of the Air Force hockey team. After returning from service he went on to study Engineering at MIT in Cambridge, MA. Subsequently Richard worked as an Engineer for Lorad in Cambridge and Dynamics Research Corporation in Andover, serving the US Navy working on the Trident Nuclear Missile Systems.
Some of his favorite things in life include his family, his dogs, boats, cars, and time spent at Mt. Washington. In his free time and after retirement, Richard enjoyed spending time on his boats, motorcycle trips, was an avid skier, and an innovative builder. He was a lover of jazz and with his wife attended many live concerts.
The husband of Natalie DeCristofaro, he is also survived by his children, Richard S. Malagodi Jr., Katherine Doucet Malagodi, Lisa Domenici and her husband Paul, Robin Kane and her husband Bill, and step-son Michael DeCristofaro; a sister, Louise Collins; a brother, Charles Malagodi; grandchildren, Nicole Malagodi, Garrett Malagodi, Kayleigh Kane and Samantha Kane, Emma Kane, and Sophia DeCristofaro.
He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Alberta Marie Malagodi; a brother, John Malagodi and a sister, Norma O’Meara.
There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, 107 North Main St., Westford, MA followed by Air Force military honors.
