Obituary: Paul J. Shammas

Paul J. Shammas, 42, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, August 20, 2017. Paul proudly served in the U.S. Army as a member of the famed First Ranger Battalion from 1994 to 2001. Paul was born November 19, 1974 and lived for the past 15 years in Savannah, GA with his wife Heidi Shammas, and Sabu Shammas, his faithful canine companion.

 Paul was a graduate of Groton Dunstable Regional High School in Groton, and studied nursing at both the University of Massachusetts and Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah. GA. He was an active member in many clubs and organizations, mostly in honor of his fellow soldiers.

Paul is survived by his wife Heidi of Savannah, GA; his mother Sandra Shammas of Weare, NH; his father John Shammas of Ashby. MA; his sisters: Virginia Shammas Belliveau of Weare, NH; and Michele Sweeney of Pepperell, MA; his brothers: William Sweeney of Tennessee; and Shahan Shammas of Ashby, MA; as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, godchildren, nieces and nephews. 

The family received visitors from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 25, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel and funeral services were held at Bonaventure Cemetery Saturday, August 26.

A 40-Day Memorial Service will be held Sunday, September 24, 2017, 11 a.m., at Saint Matthew’s Syrian Orthodox Church located at 149 Park Street, West Roxbury, MA.Remembrances can be made in Paul’s memory to any charity of your choosing.
