OBITUARY: John A. Hill at 89

John A. Hill, 89, of 51 Nod Rd, died Monday, April 24, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Liverpool, England and was a veteran of the British Army in 1946-47, stationed in North Africa. He came to the US in 1958, and worked at MIT’s Lincoln Labs as a mechanical engineer. He was one of the original members of the Boston Rugby Club. He lived in Belmont for many years and was highly involved with youth soccer programs as a coach.

He moved to Groton in 2008. He was employed most recently at BAE Systems in Nashua, working regularly beyond his 88th birthday. He was a world traveler, hiking long distance trails in Europe into his 80s. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Burrowes Hill and leaves behind a loving family: Bob, Lorin, Carter and Lucy Hill of Groton; John, Sara, Della and Marshall Hill of Plainville; James Hill and Melinda Harwig of Glen Ellyn, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
