OBITUARY: Howard (Howdy) P. Clapp 68

A life-long resident of Groton, Howard (Howdy) P. Clapp passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Groton June 9, 1945 to the late George H. and Mae (McCain) Clapp. In his early years he worked as a School Bus Driver, Fire Fighter and on the Ambulance Service for the town of Groton. For the past 25 years, he was a self-employed truck driver and owned his own company, H. Clapp Trucking, Inc.

Howard was an avid racecar driver and small block, super modified car owner. He loved watching Dave Sanborn, who became like a son to him, race his car. He spent most of his life at Lee Speedway and Hudson Speedway in New Hampshire. He was also an avid Nascar fan. Besides racing he loved camping, cookouts and spending time with his family.

His greatest love was for his wife of 48 years and his daughters and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn (Hall) Clapp of Groton; three daughters: Kimberly Ladd and husband Roland of Unity, ME; Melissa Rice and husband Robert of Greenville, NH and Georgette Clapp of Groton; two sisters Lillian Alcott of Groton and Kathleen Brown of South Carolina as well as eight grandchildren: Michael Young, Joseph Gonsalves, Cody Cummiskey, Shasta Rice, Robert Rice Jr, Ryan Rice, Shelby Harkins, Edward Harkins as well as several nieces and nephews, and many close personal friends and his beloved dogs.

A Funeral Service will be held 5 p.m. Friday at Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton followed by a visitation till 8 p.m. Burial will be Private. Please see www.badgerfuneral.com.
