Obituary: Christopher B. Barton

Christopher B. Barton, 24, of Groton, died on December 24, 2015.

Christopher was born on March 11, 1991, and was the beloved son of Daniel J. and Alisa B. (Bishop) of Groton and Newburyport.

He was raised in Carlisle and Groton and was a member of the Class of 2009 at Groton-Dunstable Regional High School.

He was also a member of the Class of 2014 at UMass Lowell, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with his degree in molecular biology and with a minor in analytical chemistry and applied mathematics.

Christopher was employed as a research assistant at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. He was working in the Channing Laboratory on cancer research, about which he was very passionate.

He loved spending time at the beaches of Long Island, Maine, walking around Boston, and near his family's home in Newburyport.

He will be remembered as a kind and generous son, grandson and friend who loved exercise, learning, substitute teaching and tutoring, cooking, music, coffee, being with friends and family, helping others, and his meaningful work at the hospital.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandfather, Judge Robert A. Barton of Bedford and maternal grandparents, Dr. George and Nadine Bishop of Groton, formerly of Carlisle and many aunts, uncles and cousins here in the United States and in Greece. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Norma A. Barton.

Christopher both loved and was dearly cherished by his girlfriend, Vanessa Gauthier of Westford, as well as his very close friends.

A memorial service and reception, to celebrate his life, was held at the First Religious Society, 27 School St., Carlisle on Sunday, January 3.
