Margaret M. LaVigne

Margaret M. LaVigne (Peggy) of Concord, formerly of Groton and Falmouth, born during the Roaring 20s on February 17, 1924 in Fitchburg, died March 25, 2018 on Palm Sunday at home. She was the wife of the late Dr. Richard J. LaVigne, M.D.

Peggy was the daughter of Margaret Brazell and Thomas P. Flynn and the sister of Joanne F. Dutra of Kittery, ME, and the late Thomas P. Flynn of Wayland. Peggy is survived by her daughter Meg LaVigne of Concord; sons Richard J. LaVigne and Paul C. LaVigne also of Concord; Peter T. LaVigne and wife Trudie of Milton; and their daughters Annie and Susannah of Baltimore and Orlando respectively; and Michael A. LaVigne and wife Lisa White of Cambridge.

Peggy grew up in Gardner and graduated from Sacred Heart School and Gardner High School. She received a B.A. Degree from Mt. Holyoke College in 1946. Mrs. LaVigne was a 19-year member of the Board of Trustees, Deaconess Nashoba Hospital in Ayer. She was a Past-President of the Massachusetts Medical Society Alliance, a Regional Vice-President of the American Medical Association Alliance, and a Past Director of the National Home Caring Council.

Peggy was co-editor of the book, The Voices of Children, Messages of Hope and Optimism For A Kinder World. Filled with original artwork and messages from fifth graders in eight towns served by Deaconess-Nashoba Hospital, the book shares children’s thoughts, feelings, hopes and fears about peace and violence all to encourage adults to listen to the children and help create a kinder, safer and peaceful world.

Peggy is a member of the Fitton Society, College of the Holy Cross and a parishioner of Holy Family Parish in Concord.

Peggy’s life will be celebrated at a funeral Mass to be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord. A reception will immediately follow. Interment will be private.
