Jane Ogle Evans

Jane Ogle Evans, age 90, passed away on April 5, 2020 at Care One in Concord.
Born and raised in Ithaca, NY, Jane and her twin sister Jean, were the youngest of six daughters of the late Robert Carroll Ogle and Lillian Hicks Ogle. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Robert Evans in 2008; and four sisters, Elaine Adams, Wynn Somers, Carol Woods, and Doris Dye.
Jane attended Ithaca High School where she met her future husband Ken, and after he graduated from Cornell University they married and moved to Palo Alto, CA so he could pursue graduate studies at Stanford University.               Following Ken’s career back east in 1961, they moved to Concord. Jane kept busy raising six children and decorating an historic home. When she and Ken dreamed of a farm, they moved to Carlisle where they purchased a pre-Revolutionary War colonial home on 60 acres. Here she lived for 28 years, tending to a huge garden and countless animals while she and Ken taught their children the meaning of hard work and perseverance. She generously opened their home to many foster children for whom farm life was a rewarding experience.
Jane and Ken were also enthusiastic travelers and ventured throughout the world by camper, sailboat or touring. Always looking for adventure, Jane would often bravely take trips without Ken. The Evanses, often with foster children and friends in tow, would make the long trek to faraway places. She lived life to its fullest!
Jane’s bold spirit and her many interests are now shared by her children.
She is survived by four daughters, Marie Lane and her husband Steve of Groton, Laura Evans of Newton, Kari Evans of Holliston, Mia O’Connell and her husband Paul of Ipswich; two sons, Scott and his wife Susan of Carlisle, and Stephen and his wife, Lauren, of Westford; one sister, Jean Hickey of Oneonta, NY; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren
A private family gathering will be held in Groton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Nature Conservancy at Nature.org. Also please visit this Facebook page, “Jane’s Hikes” dedicated to our mother.
