Thomas D. Hartnett Memorial Trust & Scholarship Fund
“Tom was instrumental in setting up the Trusts and moving to reinvest the Trust funds. What we have today is due to Tom. I want people to know that we have $19,000,000 thanks to Tom Hartnett.”

The Thomas D. Hartnett Memorial Trust and Scholarship Fund, in memory of one of Groton’s leading citizens, was adopted by unanimous vote of the Select Board, following its adoption by the Commissioners of Trust Funds.
A longtime resident, Tom Hartnett left his mark of leadership serving Groton both as an elected official and dedicated employee in this community that he so loved. Tom served as a member of the Finance Committee and in 1990 as Treasurer and Tax collector. Upon retiring from this position, Tom was elected to the Board of Selectmen. He later became a member of the Commissioner of Trust Funds and Groton Sewer Commission. He also served as Treasurer and President of the Groton Cemetery Association, and was a favorite volunteer at the Groton Senior Center leading his “Talk with Tom”.
With his wife Norma and nephew Michael Hartnett present, sons Douglas and David told the Board, “This is an important scholarship for our Dad.” They listened as members of the Board and Trust Fund Commissioners praised his work. Commissioner Martha McClure said, “Tom was instrumental in setting up the trusts and moving to reinvest the trust funds. What we have today is due to Tom. I want people to know that we have $19M thanks to Tom Hartnett.”
