Senior Center Comes In $40K Under Budget After Final Accounting

by Connie Sartini
Town Manager Mark Haddad told the Select Board that the final accounting for the design and construction costs of the Senior Center in West Groton is completed and that he was pleased to announce that it came in under budget costing $40,000 below what Town Meeting had appropriated for the project.
Total cost for the project including design was $5,858,580.
This included the earlier approved funds for design and engineering. Town Meeting appropriated $5,431,000, but with a $92,000 state grant for a generator and a $15,000 gift from Lawrence Academy, the bond for the project was reduced to $5,342,328, that resulted in borrowing $80,000 less than originally forecast.
Haddad and Town Accountant Patricia Dufresne listed every invoice for the project, per request from the Select Board. He said that he was thrilled and excited with the results. “We saved some money so the tax payers didn’t have to borrow as much.”
Haddad also updated the Board on the progress of DPW Highway garage renovations. He said they are moving along with a main building punch list that is under preparation, and the expectation that the DPW will be able to move in at the end of the week.
