Select Board Approves Real Estate Abatement Extension Plan

by Connie Sartini

Town Manager Mark Haddad updated the Select Board regarding Abatement Applications currently in the Assessor’s Office.
Principal Assistant Assessor Jonathan Greeno reported, “The Assessors had 45 Abatement Applications. They have dealt with 20 of these to date, leaving 26 that need to be voted on. Some require an interior inspection and some do not.
The Assessors have cancelled about a dozen inspections that were due to happen this week or next.
There are some applications that have to be acted upon by mid- April with the rest by the end of April. To address this and on the advice of Assessor Garret Boles, the Assessors have formulated a plan to send out letters of extension to all the remaining applicants asking for a 60-day extension. It is in the applicant’s best interest to extend since if the Assessors do not act it becomes a "deemed denied" application. The Assessors believe that this is the best solution moving forward.”
At Haddad’s recommendation, Select Board approved the plan as proposed by the Board of Assessors.
