EEE Horse Death Close to Groton
Groton Land Use Department has just released a notification that a horse in Tyngsborough was found to be infected with Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) According to Land Use Assistant Dawn Dunbar, Groton has been elevated to Moderate Risk due to the fact that it is one of the towns surrounding Tyngsborough.
She advised that a horse from Tyngsborough was infected with EEE. Disease onset was Aug. 30 and date of death was Sept. 1. The horse was exposed locally. This raises the risk level in Tyngsborough to critical.
Surrounding towns of Dracut, Lowell, Chelmsford, Westford, Groton and Dunstable are considered to be at moderate risk. Additional mosquito trapping and testing will be done in the area to help assess risk.
