'CAN'T GET NO RESPECT': No Bids For Prescott School

The historic Prescott School, a centerpiece of Main Street, just doesn't seem to generate the imagination or creativity needed for someone to step forward and transform the former high school/elementary school into a wonderful, useful second life. The Prescott School Reuse Committee did exhaustive analysis, research, used consultants and reached out into the community for residents input on its future, but when the Request for Proposal (RFP) went out there were simply no bidders.

Haddad told the Selectmen that one hotel chain that specialized in transforming old buildings into accommodations, told him that the building was too small at 29,000 sq. ft. and that they would look for 40,000 to 60,000 sq. ft. buildings to renovate. He added that he did not discuss the possibility of an addition with the hotel chain representative.

Selectman Josh Degen suggested that the Board meet with the Prescott Re-Use Committee to discuss how to move forward.
