60-Day Extension Granted To Connect to Sewer

The two commercial properties located at 120 Boston Road, Myette Power Equipment and 116 Boston Road, a tile business owned by Dottie Mack Janes, have been granted an extension of 60 days by the Board of Health to connect to the municipal sewer system that passes in front of their properties.

Nashoba Associated Boards of Health Agent Ira Grossman confirmed the 60-day extension to complete the hookup and said that this also required both owners to abandon the existing shared septic system.

The Myette property, under PCM Realty Trust, has told several committees that it is willing to connect to the line as it goes through the permitting process to construct a new two-story medical building at the 120 Boston Road site.

The sewer line that runs in front of these properties was installed by the Groton Sewer Department more than four years ago. According to the Town of Groton Zoning Bylaws, Chapter 190-1, "In the case of an existing building within the system as of the effective date of this article, connect said building to the sewer with an effective drain within two years of said effective date or within two years of the date when said sewer is available for such connection, whichever date is later. In the case of a new building within the system constructed after the effective date of this article, connect said building to the sewer prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy by the Building Inspector."

However, as long as these businesses were operating and had a working Title V compliant systems, they could continue as long as they provided a yearly update on the system to the Board of Health. When a new building is proposed, the owners must connect to the municipal sewer.
