Superintendent’s Update On The Flo Ro Building Project
It is with great excitement that I share that the Massachusetts School Building Authority Board has voted to invite Groton-Dunstable Regional Schools to join them in undertaking a Feasibility Study of a new or renovated Florence Roche Elementary School.
Together the MSBA and Groton-Dunstable Regional Schools will work to develop the most fiscally sound and educational appropriate solution to the problems identified at the Florence Roche.
As per the previous agreement with the MSBA, the Feasibility study will also include examination of the current conditions of the Swallow Union Elementary School in terms of the possible future issues with the physical plant of the school and any concerns regarding the ability of that building to meet the educational vision of the Groton-Dunstable Regional School District for its elementary students.
Through the generosity of both communities, the appropriation of the funds to cover the cost of the Feasibility Study and the development of a preliminary design of the preferred solution to address the concerns at Florence Roche have already been approved by both towns.
Funding for this work will be sourced from the Excessive and Deficiency Account of the school district. Currently we have been informed to expect a reimbursement of approximately 48% of the costs from the MSBA.
During the Feasibility Study there will be multiple opportunities for parents and community members to participate in the “educational visioning” process, assisting the staff and faculty of the district with the development of a detailed educational vision for our elementary students.
More information will be shared regarding these open forums after the December break. Information regarding the MSBA process and the Florence Roche School Building Committee can be found on our district website under the Schools tab.
We look forward to sharing this process with everyone.
