SAVE Money By Purchasing New Radio System at Radio Shack
Dear Editor:
We have received many calls to comment on the current situation with the Groton town administration. We don't like to get involved with personality problems, but this is more than that. It is a power struggle among certain selectmen and the town manager. It may be over renewing his contract.
We were surprised to find out that this manager can spend up to $10,000 without authorization from anyone. This may be for videos, office supplies and so on. This amount is too high in our opinion. In other words, we have spent $3,000 on a video to promote a sewer study that maybe no one wants. This is speculation on the administration's part, a sort of 'build it and they will come,' mentality. We don't see builders standing in line to develop the Four Corners area.
Between the sewer study article and the article to replace the town's two-way radio system, we are talking almost a million dollars. We might suggest contacting Radio Shack for a going-out-of-business deal. We are sure a better deal can be had than [for the proposed] $650,000.
The final question we received was, "Should we vote to recall all of the selectmen?" In our opinion, this is too time consuming. With the up and coming election, if you don't like a selectman, simply don't vote for them and write in a candidate. If they get enough votes, they are in.
Sincerely,
R. S. Stephens
