LETTERS: Speeches Are Nice, But Action Is Needed

Citizens and voters: We are currently in election season and face many difficult choices about who to vote for. We are writing this letter about the importance of electing a person who can represent Groton and our entire district at the State House. Our state has a funding mechanism that penalizes communities with higher household incomes when determining local aid distributions to our school and municipal budgets. The formula used for this aid is old and antiquated. Changes to equalize aid statewide have been discussed for two decades. Unfortunately, these changes get pushed off and kicked to the wayside year after year. Advocacy for this aid is only one of many attributes required by an effective State Representative. Listening, hearing and advocacy for the needs of both the district and the state as a whole is another important quality that a good Representative must possess. We have witnessed firsthand the folks who have represented Groton for almost 30 years. While speeches are nice, action with positive results are desperately needed now more than ever. We have known Deb Busser for many years. We have found her to be intelligent, caring and not afraid to face any challenges that she has encountered. We need a representative that will attend local meetings of the District’s various Select Boards. This is something that has been missing for many years on end. Deb has personally committed that she will attend these meetings when asked. After hearing the concerns of community leaders she will form a plan to address these needs. She is also the type of person you can call at work or home and have a personal conversation about constituent concerns. Change is in the air and we ask you to join us in voting for DEB BUSSER for our new State Representative. Amy and Josh Degen Martins Pond Road
