LETTER: International Trips are Eyeopening for Students

Dear Editor,

I would like to congratulate the School Committee for its decision to approve the Groton-Dunstable school music trip to Europe. For those who question the value of expensive trips like this one, I would like to explain why I believe it is a worthwhile expenditure. Having been on an international school trip myself, I can honestly say that going abroad is eye opening.

While Groton is an idyllic place to live, there is much to learn and see on a trip abroad. There are cultures so vastly different from our own that can only be understood fully through firsthand experience. I can guarantee that this is money well spent. Seeing a different part of the globe gives students a completely new perspective that could shape their attitude and understanding of the world. International trips instill in students an appreciation for different people. This could be the most valuable part of their education.

Sincerely,

Bennett Marston
