"I Feel Lucky to Be Alive"

[Ed. Note: See story on rescue of a hiker in the NEWS section of this week's Groton Herald.]

To the Editor,

I want to thank Groton’s finest – the Groton police and EMS services who rescued me in Rocky Hill Woods Monday night.  I also want to thank the Ayer police and Westford canine services, as well as, the State police who were all involved in my rescue.  I was terrified and feel grateful that I was found.

Not only did these towns devote considerable resources to finding me, but they were caring and understanding with me and my husband when I was found.

Finally, I want to thank our neighbors, who provided much needed support to my husband throughout this drama. I feel lucky to be alive and grateful to be living in a town whose public services and caring excel.

My husband Richard Fichera and I will be donating to Groton’s canine fund to support this magnificent team.
