Prescott Offers Twenty-Two On- line Programs to the Community

Having suspended its Spring Semester programming due to the COVID-19 emergency, the Prescott School Community Center (PSCC) re-worked its educational model and this week announced that twenty-two of its popular programs will now be on-line. Teachers have been trained in the use of the free video-conferencing software Zoom and will begin teaching as early as this Saturday, March 28. Registration for all classes is available at the Prescott website, www.prescott-scc.org.
The change to on-line learning has become more relevant given Governor Baker’ state-wide advisory to stay at home. No longer able to venture outside in small groups, a person can join others by registering for a class, logging on at the appointed time and meeting fellow students through video and/or audio conferencing.
Prescott is offering a new, free on-line class “Learning to Zoom”, available Thursday at 1:00 and on Monday at 3:00. Register for it on the PSCC website.
Fitness classes such as yoga, pilates, and Zumba are offered, as are discussion groups on films, TED Talks, and poetry. Budding artists may be interested in taking Basic Oil Painting, or Basic Drawing, while springtime gardeners may like a seminar on designing home landscape.
Groton is featured at PSCC in several series--some on Groton Architecture and the other on local topography and geology of the area. Groton Town Meeting moderator Jason Kauppi will offer a special class on the future of Town Meeting--currently postponed until May 18.
Fees for the classes vary and will be applied to the income for some of the sub-contracted professional staff and to the upkeep of the Prescott School and rent paid to the Town of Groton. Friends of Prescott will absorb the cost of Paypal registration fees, waiving these this semester.
Questions or concerns about this new program can be addressed by emailing prescottscc@ gmail.com or phoning 978-877- 6933. The virtual Prescott office is open from 1:00-3:00 Monday through Friday and accepts direct calls at this time.
