Nashua River Guided Paddles: Free NRWA Program
Would you like to try taking a paddle on the Nashua River? Nashua River Watershed Association (NRWA) invites the public to sign-up for one of these free paddles in the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge in Devens on Saturday, May 4, (rain date Sunday May 5). There will be two small group paddles, each lasting one and a half hours, the first from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and the second from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Paddlers will take a 45-minute trip out from the launch, and return to the same location led by Stacey Chilcoat, NRWA River Classroom Director, and River Classroom guides from Nashoba Paddler, outfitter and NRWA partner. Launch from the Bill Ashe Visitor Facility, 80 Hospital Rd., Devens.
Canoes for all participants will be provided by Nashoba Paddler. For those who have not paddled before, there will be brief paddling instruction on shore before departure, and multiple guides will be paddling with the group. Space is limited; pre-registration is required. Those registering should plan to be available on the rain date as well in the event of a postponement. Participants should arrive 15 minutes ahead of their scheduled trip to ensure a prompt departure. Parking will be at the Bill Ashe Visitor Facility with a short walk down to the launch area. To register, contact Diane Carson at Nashoba Paddler at (978) 448-8699.
This program is free and open to the public made possible with the support of NRWA Event Sponsor, Emerson Green, a fresh approach to mindful living in Devens. These paddles are part of the year-long series of free programs being presented in NRWA’s watershed communities as part of NRWA’s celebration of its 50th Anniversary.
