Harlan the Gnome - New Clues

Harlan is still hiding on one of Groton Conservation Trust's properties.  The ice cream treat for the first finder has yet to be claimed. He is up a hill beside a trail that has a big stone with little stones on it.  So you can rule out all the flat conservation properties and get your hill hiking going to find Harlan.

The first hint posted on www.facebook.com/Groton Conservation Trust is that self-heal ,or heal-all (Prunella vulgaris), a blue purple wildflower plant with two to twelve inche stalks, are blooming in a clump along the trail.

Also spotted blooming in the woods is Pipsissewa--harder to see because it is only five inches tall with one-inch white five-petal flowers hanging face down.  The leaves are evergreen and at ground level with a prominant white stripe.  Both wildflowers pictures are posted on GCT facebook.

Harlan has noticed toad stools are popping up all around him...maroon ones, yellow ones, gold ones, tan ones etc.  Even the pretty Deathcaps (Amanitas) is sitting picturesquely beside the main trail.  Despite its lovely orange cap with white warts and white veil it is very poisonous.  There is a large clump of green topped white bodied mushrooms near the junction of the rock trail.  If you are seeing mushrooms you may be very near Harlan.
