Golf Course Improvement Fundraiser, Saturday, August 23
Groton Golf Association's (GGA) 4th Annual Course Improvement Fundraiser golf tournament will be Saturday, Aug. 23. All proceeds will be used to fund enhancements to the golf course. Registration forms available in the Pro Shop at Groton Country Club (GCC). Deadline for registration is Sunday, Aug. 17.
Tournament will be held at GCC, and is open to all. You do not need to be a Groton resident or member of the club to participate. If you are an individual golfer or a two-some, you will be matched with other singles to form 4-person teams.
This event, which tees off at 11 a.m. Aug. 23, is a 4-person-team scramble, followed by dinner, raffle and awards. Registration $75 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, gift items for each participant and a sit-down dinner. Cash prizes awarded to top team and randomly to several other foursomes. Winners of closest-to-the-pin and closest-to-the-line contests for both ladies and men will be awarded prizes.
GGA was formed in 2011 by a group of golfers whose goal was to enhance all aspects of golf at GCC. Since then, GGA members conducted an annual 2-day course clean up; re-measured the course, added new yardage markers on each hole and purchased new benches for most tee boxes. Members have also put in more than 1,000 hours during GGA's course clean-up day.
GGA has been the driving force behind increased participation at GCC events.
In the past two years, GGA has contributed more than $12,000 for course improvement projects including re-construction of the two-tiered tee box on the 9th hole, and re-sodding the forward tee boxes on holes 6 though 9.
Sponsorships available for businesses and individuals who wish to support GGA. These range from a Platinum Sponsor ($500), which includes a foursome, signs on the course and recognition at the Awards Dinner, a Beverage Sponsor ($200) which provides a beverage "chit" to The Tavern for each golfer, a Golf Balls and Tee Sponsor ($150) which provides a sleeve of golf balls plus golf tees for each player, Tee & Green Sponsor ($100) whose name will be displayed on an on-the-course advertising sign during the tournament, and a Towel Sponsor ($50) whose name will be imprinted on golf towels given to each player.
