New Site For Lighted Trees

When the Groton Woman’s Club began their annual decoration of swags and lights on the Minutemen Common this month, something was missing. And that was the tree in the Common that has also always been lighted for the holidays. Unfortunately, that tree was dying and finally had to be removed for safety.

With no tree to adorn with lights, Groton Woman’s Club member Berta Erickson came up with an idea: Why not move the lighting of trees to the Prescott Common, at the intersection of Main Street and Old Ayer Road, where there are several tall healthy trees. She received permission from the Board of Selectmen and major assistance from the Groton Electric Light Department. The twinkling lights on Prescott Common will provide a welcoming entrance to the town center.
